For 2008 the rights for video games to the MotoGP brand has been granted to a single developer, Capcom, and the same game will be available on all current and popular systems. Also for the first time in recent years, the official MotoGP video game will incorporate the 125cc and 250cc support classes in addition to the premier class, MotoGP. The Wii uses the Wii remote as handlebar making the game much more realistic.

The recent editions published by Capcom (for PS2) have had a reputation for emphasis on simulation in contrast to those published by THQ (for Xbox, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows) with a reputation for arcade gameplay. MotoGP '08 is reported to balance these different styles and allow the player to configure an emphasis towards their desired gameplay.
Initial reviews of the game have given a positive reception, with IGN's Ben Bayross going as far as stating the gameplay is 'darn tooting spectacular'
